Spark House

Najee founded Spark House in 2016 and leads it as founder and executive director. Spark House provides arts education programs and professional development to young people, staff and administrators in schools and non-traditional learning settings.

Its mission: to engage youth by igniting creative self-expression and promoting rigorous literacy.

Two pathways

Programs for schools

Students kneel and stand along a school hallway, each painting a different part of the mural.

Community Mural Residency

  • Students work with professional artists to design large‑scale murals
  • Explores identity, belonging and shared history
  • Turns school space into a lasting symbol of student voice
  • Ends with a school‑wide unveiling

Spoken Word Showcase

  • A guided creative writing and performance journey
  • Builds public speaking confidence
  • Students write original poems and performance pieces
  • Ends with a showcase for the whole community

Both pathways include professional development and tools for educators, so the work continues after the final showcase. Photos by Alex Bershaw, spring 2026.
